Notes for Frank Joseph Perry Jr.
Frank was a well-known film director and producer. His first movie, “David and Lisa” (1962), earned him recognition with film festival awards and Academy Award nominations for direction and screenwriting. Among the notable films that followed were “Diary of a Mad Housewife” (1970) and “Mommie Dearest” (1981). Frank suffered from prostate cancer in his last years, a struggle that he chronicled in the acclaimed film, “On the Bridge,” released in 1993. He last lived in Aspen, Colo.

Eleanor was a prolific writer of articles, novels and plays. Among her more notable works were “Third Best Sport,” which was produced for Broadway, and her Emmy award-winning screenplay adaptation of Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory.” She won another Emmy for another Capote adaptation, “The House Without a Christmas Tree.” Her later novel “Blue Pages” was a semi-autobiographical work that included a reflection of her marriage to Frank Perry. She collaborated on his films such as “David and Lisa.” She died of cancer.

Barbara was a founding editor of New York Magazine and author of “Little Gloria…Happy At Last,” a spawling best-selling book about the 1934 custody battle over Gloria Vanderbilt, published in 1980. She was also the author of other notable titles, such as “Other Powers: The Age of Suffrage, Spiritualism and the Scandalous Victoria Woodhull” (1998) and “Obsessive Genius: The Inner World of Marie Curie” (2005).
