Notes for Howard James Dutro
In 1942, Howard was among the many prisoners of war captured by the Japanese following the Battle of Bataan in the Philippines, while with the 60th Calvary Regiment. He was subjected to the cruel “death march” to Camp O’Donnell on Luzon Island, in the municipality of Capas. He contracted malaria and died at the encampment. Howard’s name was included on a war memorial erected in 1947 at Kalispell, Mont.
