Bud joined the US Navy in 1944, at the age of 17, and was a parachute rigger during WWII. He was stationed in the Phillipines and then assigned to the NARTU in Anacostia, Md. He and Dorothy settled in Lanham, Md. In 1959, He and Dorothy settled in Lanham, Md. In 1963, he marched in President Kennedy’s funeral procession. Walter played on numerous sports team and had a second career as a vending supervisor at Goddard Space Flight Center, retiring in 1966. He was an usher for the Washington Redskins football team for decades. In 1994, Bud and Dorothy returned to their native Carrolltown, Pa.
