Notes for George Henry Joseph Eiser III
George and Imelda settled in Grenada Hills, Ca. George was raised in Pittsburgh, graduating from Westinghouse High School in 1942. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer escort USS Lamons in the South Pacific. The Lamons was part of Admiral William "Bull" Halsey's Pacific Fleet, participating in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval surface ship battle in history. George and his shipmates on the Lamons also survived the tremendous typhoon, which became known in history as "Halsey's Typhoon," that struck the fleet in December, 1944 and sank three U.S. Navy destroyers. The Lamons supported several Pacific island invasions, including Iwo Jima, for which the ship departed from Ulithi on February 8, 1945, George's 21st birthday. Soon after, he was selected for the Navy's V 12 officer candidate program and was sent to Princeton University, and later received an appointment to the US Naval Academy. After the War, George completed his education at the University of Pittsburgh. George and his wife of 62 years, Imelda "Mel", settled in the San Fernando Valley, where they raised three sons. During his career as a sales representative George worked for a number of companies, including the Remington Arms Company, DuPont, the Reed Tool Company, and J.I. Case Power and Equipment, from which he retired in 1994. He was active for many years at St. John the Baptist De La Salle Church, where he served as an usher, lector, extraordinary minister, and a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Notes for Imelda Veronica (Spouse 1)
Imelda had a masters degree in French and taught at St. John the Baptist, De La Salle and Alemany high schools, and served as assistant Vice Principal at the latter.
