Notes for Orville John Farabaugh
Orville was Altoona’s city-wide marble champion in 1930 and again in 1931, when there were 375 contestants from the city schools. He attended the state meet in Reading, Pa., where he only shot one marble and lost out to Irvine Zimmerman of Harrisburg. Zimmerman began the match by shooting out seven marbles from the ring before missing. Orville took out only one marble and then missed altogether. Zimmerman then clinched by clearing out seven more.

Orville became a well-known athlete in his native Altoona, playing second base for the 1934 Junior Champions, the Fifth Ward Monarchs (which also had his cousin Dave Farabaugh filling in at times as catcher). Orville played on various basketball teams as well.

He lived in Altoona his entire life and was a freight conductor for Conrail for 40 years, retiring in 1979.
