Notes for Augustine Bernard Cole
Augustine was raised in Carroll Township, Cambria County, Pa., where he was both a farm hand and a factory worker. By 1900, he was working at a “hose repair shop” for the railroad, and had a family of seven children, living in a mortgaged home on 16th Avenue in Altoona, Pa.
By 1910, the family relocated to West Princess Anne, Maryland, where Augustine owned a farm on Eden Road. The 1920 Census finds the family back in Altoona, where Augustine headed a household of 14 and was working as a janitor in a laundry shop. At the time of his death in 1929, Augustine was working as a janitor for the Lippman Company.
