Notes for William John Lauer
William was raised in Carroll Township, Cambria County, Pa. He and Bertha lived at R.D., Carrolltown, Pa., where they were dairy farmers. The large scale operation in East Carroll Township began in 1913 and grew to 300 acres with a herd of about 50 head. William was assisted by sons Irvin and Joseph. William also taught school for two terms in Barr Township and one term in East Carrolltown while also serving as a substitute at the latter. He also owned and operated the old Rex Theatre in Barnesboro three years, worked at the Madera Mine Shaft near Barnesboro for 2 years, was the dog law enforcement officer for the county at least 8 years, served as the area Dairy Agent for the Pa. Dept. of Health for four yeras and also served as a supervisor for the area FHA office. William was also active in local politics and elections. He was the Democratic district chairman, and an Auditor for East Carroll Township.

Bertha was raised in Susquehanna Township, Cambria County, Pa., and in Barnesboro, Pa. Bertha worked 5 years at Fridman’s Dept. Store in Barnesboro prior to her marriage. She later became active in local politics for the Democratic Party.
