Gertrude was a Sister of Charity in Greensburg, Pa. for 58 years. She served at Our Lady of Mercy parish, in Prospect, Pa. and at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, Pa.

In the 1930 Census, Gertrude is one of 17 sisters working at the Roselia Foundling Asylum and Maternity Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
