Leo’s draft card for WWI indicated he was a steam fitter for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona, Pa., and that he was seeking a war service exemption because of his wife’s delicate health.
By 1920, he relocated to Pittsburgh, and was an auto mechanic living with his first wife Esther and three other couples in a rented home on South Dithridge Street. By 1930, he was a chauffeur for a private family in Pittsburgh, living with his second wife Adah, children and step-children. In 1940, he was a steel mill mechanic, living with his family in Ross Towsnhip Allegheny County, Pa. His WWII registration card indicated he worked for Jone & Laughlin Steel Co. He eventually settled in California.
