Bennett was a farmer in 1915. The 1930 Census lists him as a road construction mechanic, with Nellie in Diana, NY. The 1940 Census places him as a garage mechanic with Hazel Norton as his wife in Granville, NY, although their marriage record does not date until shortly after Nellie’s death in 1950.

Nellie was adopted. She lived in Newton Falls, Diana, and New York City, before settling in Adirondack, NY. By 1935, Nellie was no longer living with her husband Bennett but was instead a housekeeper at the home of William F. McGinley, a general store merchant, in Horicon, NY. Nellie’s cause of death was carcinoma of the cervix.
