Notes for Albert Celestine Farabaugh
Among his relatives, Albert’s life was shrouded in mystery. He was raised in Jackson Township, Cambria Co., Pa. In 1917 he was a steamfitter for the Wm. B. Dearfle Co., in New Castle, Pa. As Albert S. Farabaugh, he served in WWI as an Army sergeant at Camp Lee in Virginia from 1917 to 1919. He lived in LeContes Mills, Pa.

The 1920 Census finds Albert as an electrician at a glass factory, living as the son-in-law of Della Besecker at her boarding house in Mt. Jewett, Pa. No daughter is identified. All of the daughters were married to others or deceased except Alberta, whose whereabouts are recorded as unknown in Della’s obituary. Thus it appears that Albert had been married to Alberta, but that she left the family. She does later show, returning to Mt. Jewett as the wife of Earl Tyndall.

Albert next surfaces as an electrician in the 1923 city directory for Janesville, Wisc. A relative recalled that he lived there. Albert is then shown in the 1926 and 1928 city directories for South Bend, Ind., listing him as an electrician living there with Ethel Farabaugh, quite possibly his sister who is equally difficult to track. Also in 1928, Canadian records show that Albert crossed over into Ontario at Niagra Falls, looking for work in Montreal.

By 1934, Albert was back in Lecontes Mills, from where he signed an application for veteran’s compensation and was reported as visiting his father in Ebensburg, Pa. After this, he vanishes and is not even found in Census records.
