George had a 31 year career at Penn State University, beginning as an accountant in 1958. In 1968, he served as Assistant to the Vice President for Business, and in 1971 he became Assistant Vice President for Business Operations. He became Associate Senior Vice President for Finance and Operations in 1982; Vice President of Financial Services in 1985; and Vice President for Business and Operations from 1986-1989. George also was chairman of the Board of Directors for Omega Bank, N. A., and a Board member for Omega Financial Corporation. He belonged to the University Park Airport Authority as well as several other civic and charitable organizations. He was also a pilot. George served in the 25th Infantry Division of the Army during the Korean conflict, from January, 1953 to October, 1954, and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.

The Lovettes lived in Nicktown, before settling in State College, Pa.
