Urban was raised in Carroll Township, Cambria Co., Pa. He was a veteran of WWI, serving with Ambulance Co. #109 of the 103rd Sanitary Train, in France, from September of 1918 to May of 1919. He was awarded the Victory Medal with battle clasps for the Champagne-Marnes, Aisne-Marne, Oise-Aisne and Meuse-Argonne operations.
In 1920 and 1921, he was a stenographer and clerk, living with his brother Amandus in Pittsburgh. He appears with his wife Grace in the 1934, 1938 and 1947 Polk Directories for Pittsburgh. He died of pulmonary edma.
