John was general manager for E.P. Bender Coal Co., in Carrolltown, Pa., and died in a tractor accident. He was pulling a corn picker and wagon at the Bender farm on the Dutch Road in East Carroll Township, and when he made a turn on a slope the picker struck the tractor, causing it to overturn. John sustained a broken neck and was found under the tractor, but was not pinned. He was pronounced dead at Miners Hospital in Spangler.
