Notes for George Sylvester Farabaugh
George and his wife Rose settled at R.D. 1, Ebensburg, Pa. George was one of the first members of the Cambria County Farmers Association, served on the county board of directors for many years, served as a county member service director, served on legislative committees and was active in membership recruitment. He was also an Air Force veteran of WW II and enjoyed gardening and hunting. He operated a farm for more than 50 years, growing potatoes, corn, oats and other crops, in addition to cattle. George was one of the few farmers in the area to utilize a thresher after WW II (when he served as a sergeant in the Pacific Theater from March of 1942 to October of 1945), a key implement used to remove grain from the stalk. Three of his sons suffered from Muscular Dystrophy.
