In 1920, Melinda was a 24 year old widow with three children (Anna, Esther and Clarence) living on Scanlan’s Hill, Washington Township, Cambria Co., Pa. She was also known as “Linnie” and last lived in Bellefonte, Pa.

Edward was a coal miner for Bear Rock Coal Co. of Bens Creek, Pa. He died of a fractured spine, one month and 29 days after being struck by a falling rock in a coal mine. A laminectomy was performed, but Edward incurred sepsis. Exhaustion was also listed as a contributory cause.
