Notes for James Regis Hoyer
Rege was a second lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War, and was severely disabled from injuries incurred duing the conflict. He overcame his disabilities and worked for the Pa. Association of the Blind, for 25 years, becoming a supervisor of that organization. He received the Pennsylvania Blind Veterans Acheivement Award in 1961 and was selected as Blair County’s outstanding disabled veteran in 1967. In 1968, he received a citiation for meritorious service from the President’s Committee on the Employment of the Handicapped. He unsuccessfully ran for Mayor in 1971 and retired in 1979.
