Leonard was a prominent businessman in Cresson, Pa. He was founder and president of the Cresson Industrial Development Association, member and president of Cresson Lions Club, founder and president of the Cresson Little League, and member of the Altoona Economy Wholesale Grocery Co. for 55 years. He also owned and operated Latterner's AG Market in Cresson, was founder and director the Cresson Area Food Pantry, member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, director of the Cresson Development Association, director of the former First National Bank in Cresson, and director of Laurel National Bank in Cresson.

Leonard took over the family grocery business upon his father’s death in 1928, and moved the enterprise from Sankertown to Cresson in 1939. The market was establishd in the Runzo building and was then relocated in 1947.
