Walter was nicknamed “Skipper.” He died of multiple injuries 12 hours after he ran into the left fender of a moving vehicle in Jeannette, Pa., according to his death certificate. According to local police, Walter darted out from two parked cars into the path of an auto driven by John N. Davis of Jeannette. The boy struck the left front fender and was thrown backwards onto the pavement. He was treated at the hospital for facial abrasions, a laceration to the back of his head, x-rayed and released at 6:15 PM. He was returned to the hospital at 11 AM the following morning and died 15 minutes later.
