Barbara was a founding editor of New York Magazine and author of “Little Gloria…Happy At Last,” a spawling best-selling book about the 1934 custody battle over Gloria Vanderbilt, published in 1980. She was also the author of other notable titles, such as “Other Powers: The Age of Suffrage, Spiritualism and the Scandalous Victoria Woodhull” (1998) and “Obsessive Genius: The Inner World of Marie Curie” (2005).

Frank was a well-known film director and producer. His first movie, “David and Lisa” (1962), earned him recognition with film festival awards and Academy Award nominations for direction and screenwriting. Among the notable films that followed were “Diary of a Mad Housewife” (1970) and “Mommie Dearest” (1981). Frank suffered from prostate cancer in his last years, a struggle that he chronicled in the acclaimed film, “On the Bridge,” released in 1993. He last lived in Aspen, Colo.
