Barbara was a founding editor of New York Magazine and author of “Little Gloria…Happy At Last,” a spawling best-selling book about the 1934 custody battle over Gloria Vanderbilt, published in 1980. She was also the author of other notable titles, such as “Other Powers: The Age of Suffrage, Spiritualism and the Scandalous Victoria Woodhull” (1998) and “Obsessive Genius: The Inner World of Marie Curie” (2005).

Frank suffered from prostate cancer in his last years, a struggle that he chronicled in the acclaimed film, “On the Bridge,” released in 1993. He last lived in Aspen, Colo.
