A Catherine Stolz, a 13 year old weaver with Baden indicated as place of origin, departed from La Havre, France, and arrived in New York City on the “Ship Andes,” on July 29, 1834.

According to his obituary, John came to America with his father and family in 1832. He purchased land near Loretto, Pa., “where he continued to live as a practical Catholic throughout.”

Other records show that John’s arrival in the U.S. was actually on August 8, 1834, in New York City, aboard the “Barque Commerce” from La Havre, France. He did not declare for naturalization until January 2, 1845, in Cambria County, Pa.

His Last Will and Testament, dated June 11, 1884, was filed on July 3, 1885, in Cambria Co. Will Book No. 3, p. 617.
