Mary was raised in Blacklick Township, Cambria Co., Pa. in 1900, she and John were living in Conemaugh. By 1920, they settled in Spangler, Pa.

John immigrated in 1880 and was naturalized in 1885. He was a coal miner but by 1920 owned and operated a newspaper dealership attached to his family’s home on Bigler Avenue, Spangler, Pa. A later Census record appears to identify him as a “road service manager.”
