Amandus was raised in Carroll Township, Cambria Co., Pa. In his youth, we worked the family farm and taught at the local Weber school. In 1920, he was a clerk living with his brother Urban in Pittsburgh. In 1921, the year of his marriage to Evelyn, he was working at the same occupation for Somers, Fitler & Todd in Pittsburgh. He continued on with this industrial supply firm to at least 1924. In 1934, he is referenced as a laborer in Pittsburgh. He is however identified as a clerk again when he and Evelyn settled in Corliss, Pa. Amandus died of cardiac arrest, complicated by an upper respiratory infection.
