Notes for Edward Herman Schwab
Edward was raised in Loretto, Pa., and was an altar boy at St. Michael's Church. He attended and reportedly taught law at Notre Dame University, and practiced in South Bend, Ind. By 1910, the young family lived in nearby Mishawaka. Dissatisfied with his career, Edward removed to Chicago, where he became a business broker, buying and selling small firms at a profit.

By 1918, he and Edith were living in Lehigh, Pa., where Edward was an executive with the Silvex Company. Edward’s brother Charlie suggested the move to Bethlehem, Pa., where Edward reorganized several businesses. He marketed spark plugs, magnetos, radios, and wooden cabinets for radios. In 1929, Ed moved to New York City to handle Charlie's personal finances. During the Great Depression, Ed was largely responsible for reducing Charlie's financial obligations, and was an executor of his probate estate.

In 1930, the family was living in Morris Township, NJ, where Edward was engaged as a manufacturer of automobile parts. In 1940, Edward was identified as a steel mill executive, with the family living on Park Avenue in Manhattan. By 1942, they were living in Westport, Conn., where Edward worked with the Herbrand Corp.
