Notes for Joseph William Feighner
Joseph was a farmer. He and Dora lived in East Carroll Township, Cambria County, Pa.
According to a narrative composed by a relative, Marilyn Washington: Joseph Feighner was the son of Charles and Sophia (Ebig) Feighner of Plainview Farm, Old Dutch Road, Carrolltown. When his father died in 1908, Joseph inherited the farm of his grandfather, John David and Mary (Flick) Feighner, located on Feighner Road, East Carroll Township. He had been farming it for years before that. His brother Ambrose Feighner inherited the farm as well. at the same time. Joe was not hardy, and Aunt Dora did a lot of the farming. A niece, Helena Feighner Kline Hite, said that Dora drove the horses for plowing and later the tractor. She raised bedding plants for sale, and she and the children sold produce and eggs house-to-house to support the family. Joe was famous in the family for burning the house down by using gasoline, instead of kerosene, to start the coal stove one morning. The house has been torn down again since, and a new one erected on the foundation.
