John was a train brakeman for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He died when he fell between the tape lead lever and cylinder head of a coal car engine, suffering a fractured skull and broken neck. He was found dead at 12:10 o’clock on the engine of a car shifting crew at the Hastings Fuel mine siding near Hastings, Pa.
