Bernardine had a degree from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown and was a Registered Nurse at the nursery of Miners Hospital in Spangler, Pa., before becoming a homemaker raising her children. Later on, she was a Secretary for East Carroll Township.

Joseph lived at R.D., Carrolltown, Pa. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. In 1980 he tragically died in an automobile accident on Route 36 just east of the Blair County , Pa., line. Joseph was driving his 1980 Buick Skylark when a 1972 Plymouth Duster rounded the Buckhorn curve at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the road and hit Joseph’s car head on.
