Bud served on the town council when he and Alberta lived in Long Branch, Pa. In 1960, Charles was one of 38 union steelworkers suspended for his role in a wildcat strike at the plant in Allenport, Pa.

Charles and Alberta lived for a time in Long Branch, Pa. In 1970, they sold coal rights to Consolidation Coal Co. for $3784. In 1987, Alberta won a Mercury Cougar in a prize drawing conducted by the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey club and a local dealership. The couple settled in Coal Center, Pa.
