Reed was in the maritime service during WWII and served as a Navy radioman for 20 years after the war. In 1968 he and Rosemary moved to Post Falls, Ida., where they purchased the Post Cafe from her parents. Reed worked for the Post Falls Police Department for five years and then became an inspector of underground phone line constructon, retiring at the age of 62.
