In 1920, Althea was a hardware store clerk, living with her parents’ extended family in Altoona, Pa. In 1928, she attended nursing school in Detroit, Mich. She returned and following her marriage to Walter Lantzy, a widower who worked at a grist mill, they lived in Susquehanna Township, Cambria Co., Pa., at Garmantown. Walter owned the grist mill in Barnesboro.
