Notes for Elmira Frances Cole
Elmira was raised in Carroll Township, Cambria County, Pa. She was also known as "Ellie,"
"Ella," and "Ellen." She and John Burley settled in Carroll Township. They raised a large family on a farm near St. Benedict, Pa. The farm was situated on the original tract, part of which was donated by John Weakland in 1834 for the erection of St. Joseph's Church (a.k.a. "Hart's Sleeping Place"). John Weakland's son, John Jr., sold the parcel to Aaron Burley in 1874, and Aaron sold it to his son John in 1904. It passed to John's son Fenwick, who sold it in 1972 and moved to Tampa, Fla. The farm was in the Burley family for 98 years.

Elmira’s death certificate appears to indicate that the main contribution to her death was carcinoma of the liver.
Notes for John William (Spouse 1)
John Burley was from West Mahoning Township, Indiana County, Pa. By 1870, the family had relocated to Munster in Cambria County.

John’s family settled in East Carroll Township, Cambria Co., Pa. John was a farmer and his death was likely caused by cancer of the bladder.
