In 1930, a young “Dess” was an unemployed spring maker for the steel mill, renting a home for $15 a month in Oakville, Pa. In 1940, he was a laborer at a steel mill, and the family was living in Cooperstown, Pa. He worked for 40 years with Standard Steel.
