Gus was raised in Carroll Township and in Blacklick Township, Cambria County, Pa. He lived in Latrobe, Pa. In 1891, it was reported that he visited friends and relatives in Blacklick Township after an absence of three years. In 1910 and 1920, he was a steel works foreman living with his family in Derry Township. In 1930, he is listed as a resident of Oakville, Pa. He was a steel heater for Electric Steel Co.
