In 1930, James was a steel mill machinist, living with his first wife Hazel and their daughter Dorothy in Verona, Pa. In 1936, James was living in New Alexandria, Pa. In 1942, James was living in Allegheny, Pa., and was again employed by Edgewater Steel Co. in Oakmont. The following year, his marriage license application indicated he was a boring mill operator living in Verona, Pa.
