Notes for Clinton James Goldberg
Clinton and his siblings were taken in or adopted by various families, apparently due to the early deaths of their parents. Clinton and his older brother Bert are listed as adopted members of the John and Jennie Lewis family of Ebensburg, Pa., in the 1910 Census and again in Bert’s 1929 obituary.

In 1920, at the age of 17, “Clinton Lewis” was an inmate of the Pennsylvania Training School in Cecil Township, Washington Co., Pa.

In 1940, the Goldbergs lived in Derry Township, Westmoreland Co., Pa., and Clinton was listed in the Census as a farm laborer. They settled in Blairsville, Pa. In 1950, Clinton reported that he was beaten and robbed of $100 by a man in Blairsville, who at a court hearing denied the charge but nonetheless agreed to refund the sum and pay for Clinton’s glasses and doctor’s fee. Clinton was an employee of C.E. Lizza in Latrobe, Pa., and a member of Teamsters’ Local 261.
