Melvin died as a result of burns over 90% of his body, suffered when his car ran out of control and struck a tree in front of his home in Mahaffey, Pa. Two passengers, brothers Robert and William Foyle, had burns but survived. Melvin was an employee of Stevens Manufacturing Co. of Ebensburg, Pa.
