Notes for Edward Francis (Spouse 1)
The family of Jennie and Edward Sutton has been chronicled by Peggy Hartzell Sutton, their granddaughter. She relates that Edward was a successful carpenter, and built the family's first home in Altoona. He and Jennie moved the family to Williamsburg for a few years before settling on a farm in Munster Township. Edward then worked for a natural gas company, inspecting the line between Altoona and Johnstown for leaks. In about 1918, he worked as a "truck farmer," taking the farm products to market twice a week. Edward was also a musician, a talent shared with many of the children. He played with the Pennsylvania Railroad Band of Altoona and, according to family lore, performed with them at Teddy Roosevelt's inauguration. The family often played at the "Diving Ridge," a hall near the area of Winterset.
