Notes for John William Wertzberger
John’s WWI registration card indicated that he was a tea and coffee saleman for the Jewel Sea Co. near Altoona, Pa., and claimed a service exemption because he was sole support for his parents. In 1930, John is listed in the Census living with his mother Susan on 8th Avenue, Altoona. He was the proprietor of a gas station. He was still living in Altoona at the time of his mother’s death in 1937.

John’s movements are hard to track after this. His 1942 draft registration indicates that he was living in Stafford and/or Falmouth, Va., and working for the Reliable Home Equipment Co., in Richmond, Va. His cousin Gertrude Greiner died in his Washington DC home in 1945. The Social Security Death Index indicates that his last residence was in Sarasota, Fla. Then his tombstone is found in Lorton, Va. John’s obituary indicated that he formerly lived at Cobb Island, Md., and that he was the owner and manager of the Bel-Air Lodge in Woodbridge, Va.
Notes for Lois T. (Spouse 1)
The Social Security Index indicates that Lois’ last residence was in Sarasota, Fla.
